Extra-curricular and Enrichment

New! Enrichment Booklet 2017

Extra-curricular Activities

School life goes on long after the final bell has sounded at 3.05pm.

Every evening there is a wealth of activities across every department at some point throughout the year. Whether or not you want to learn a new skill, develop existing ones; represent your school; meet new people or just turn up and have fun, with 42 different clubs running last year there really is something for everyone.

See our student events calendar for details of current activities.

Doing extra-curricular things has helped my confidence enormously.

It helps with leadership skills, public speaking, meeting new people, working as a team.

Enrichment enhances, improves and makes something more rewarding. A central part of our enrichment programme is the enrichment week that takes place during the last week of the summer term.

Every student and member of staff takes part and students can choose from a variety of activities based either at school, in the local area or much further afield.

To give you an idea of the extent of what's on offer, please see the July 2017 Enrichment Booklet.

Enrichment in Year 10

Students have an alternative enrichment offer in Year 10 which is higher education and careers focused. The Enrichment Booklet for Year 10 for 2017 is now available, choices must be submitted by 30th November 2016.

Area of Excellence

Varndean School have been recognised nationally as having an Area of Excellence for character education by independent charity for school improvement, Challenge Partners, and our enrichment programme forms an important aspect of this.

Careers guidance is highly thought of by Key Stage 4 students

Year 11 students were very positive about the advice and guidance they get, including that related to the next steps in their education and employment.
