Suzanne Denyer and Varndean Development Trust Awards

Recognising challenge and pride in former students.

Former students, Sam Bador and Halima Begum, have been recognised for their outstanding effort, achievement and commitment to their studies whilst at Varndean School. They each received a proud welcome as they returned to the school to be part of assembly. During the assemblies they both were presented with a cheque to further their education and to be spent in a way they feel will benefit their future.

Suzanne Denyer Award

Halima Begum was a guest in the Russell assembly on Wednesday 27th October. Her family watched as she received the cheque, and looked extremely proud and joyful. Thanks to her hard work and growth mindset whilst at Varndean School Halima has received the Susan Denyer Award for her amazing progress.

The £1000 annual award was created as part of the legacy of ex-student Suzanne Denyer who left Varndean to pursue a successful career in the Police Force. She was keen to recognise students who matched her determination and commitment to hard work and achieving their full potential.

We have had some fantastic feedback from Karishma Begum who was the Susan Denyer winner in 2014. We are so thrilled with the progress she has made and delighted to know the money has helped her in her journey.

' I will be starting Pharmacy next week at Brighton University. The award money has helped me a lot. I have used it to buy books for my studies during A level and still have some left over which I will use to buy lab equipments for my pharmacy course. It was a lot of money and I have been using it carefully.  This award has been very beneficial to me as I could purchase resources to aid me with my studies and without this amount I would not have been able to buy them. I'd like to thank Varndean School and it's staff for supporting me throughout the years I have spent there. I left Varndean feeling confident in myself. I do not have words to express my gratitude. It's a big achievement for me that I will be going to university this year and this would not have been possible without the encouragement I received at Varndean School. '

Varndean Development Award

Sam Bador was a guest in Monday 2nd October assembily. Thanks to his hard work Sam has received the Varndean Development Award for his amazing progress.

We wish current winners, and previous winners, and of course all students every success with their future education and hope through continuing to challenge themselves they have many more proud moments.
