Not a dry eye in the house!

Compassion, crime, forgiveness and love...just some of the keywords of this celebrated tale, brought to life on our very own stage at Varndean for our annual school show, this year, Les Misérables, School Edition.

With a cast and crew comprising students from all year groups all students were afforded the opportunity to audition for the show, and subsequently develop and fine tune their budding talents, whether these be in drama, stage management, singing, playing in the orchestra, dance, make-up, lighting and so on.

After many months of rehearsals, hard work and uncertainty about whether the show could go ahead we were thrilled to be able to put on the performance as planned. We were also very honoured and grateful to receive two extra special good luck messages: the first from Michael Ball who also gave us a shout-out on his BBC Radio 2 show; the second from the West End cast of Les Misérables!

The cast from the West End Les Misérables sent this very special video message

This was an unforgettable experience for many of our students, and one we very much hope they continue to pursue as they progress through Varndean and move on to further education.

We are very proud of their achievements and are so very thankful for all the support and positive messages from parents and visitors who came to watch the show. Here is just a snippet:

It’s such a massive opportunity for the kids and so much fun to both watch them perform and get wrapped up in all of the excitement that surrounds a show. I know S loved every minute of it and is still revelling from the experience.

I have always admired the way Varndean is so inclusive with their productions (I have seen many over the years) amazing to be able to give over 100 students the chance to be part of something so uplifting and transformative.

The students were outstanding and I was blown away by their professional approach.

It was fabulous to hear that so many students wanted to be part of the show - both in the cast and behind the scenes.

We haven’t stopped raving about Les Mis, it really was such an incredible show.
