Students lead the way for Refugee Week.
For Refugee Week Varndean students from the Amnesty International and Global Citizenship groups have come together and called for whole school action with a key focus on the word 'welcome'.
There are several events happening over the week including discussion topics in tutor time, guest speakers, themed lessons and a non-uniform day with a twist - instead of bringing in a £1 donation for charity, students wanting to wear non-uniform are asked to bring in specific useful items which will be gathered together by the team for donation. A list of the items needed is on the information leaflet attached here and includes socks, A4 paper, teabags and honey.
Ahead of next week's whole school D.E.A.R. event, Mr Katz, the school Librarian, has created a list of refugee themed recommended reads.
After this week there will also be another opportunity for students to take part in a cultural exchange with refugee children in Lebanon via Skype.
