News and reviews from the annual school production.
Working at Varndean School it never fails to amaze me how confident and, well, gutsy, our students are. It takes alot to put yourself out there - to give it your best shot in front of everyone.
This is something we champion and foster, whether it be taking part in a sporting fixture, speaking in assembly, organising a charity fundraising event or a school show.
Chatting to the lady sitting next to me I was struck by something she said,
It was a real show - a proper show!
She meant the kind you'd expect to see in the city's theatres. It's true. She was thrilled. So are we. This was indeed a genuine, heartfelt and accomplished performance. Well done to all involved.
A huge thank you goes out to all the students, staff members and of course not forgetting the parents running the bar who helped make it all happen.
The annual school production is not just reserved for drama students, anyone can get involved from cast to crew, band members to choreographers - we embrace individuality and inclusion and the results of that are evident in some of the comments we received:
Congratulations on a fantastic production. It was brilliant. The entire company were so focused from the very first minute. The talent at the school is amazing. It was remarkable. You are both such talented directors.
Once again thank you to you both and the entire team for a memorable night out.
I was fortunate enough recently to travel from my home in Merseyside to see my granddaughter perform in Guys and Dolls at Varndean. I write to offer my congratulations to everyone involved. It was very entertaining, and I am sure there must have been a lot of hard work by staff, cast and crew to produce such a performance. A huge WELL DONE to you all!!!!!!!

As a musician myself I was impressed at the delivery and synchronization of the live music with the wonderful singing, acting and choreography. Fabulous!
We came down from London to see the play and are writing to thank you for the wonderful performance of Guys and Dolls. The hard work put in by all was very much appreciated.
The whole cast and the band were excellent. We must not forget the crew, lighting and all back stage helpers, and bar staff who are quite often forgotten. Please pass on our congratulations to all, not forgetting the Head of Drama and all staff involved.
We wanted to say how amazing the show was yesterday. My 9 year old watched it twice (with Balfour and with us)! The cast, crew and band have worked so hard to put on a brilliant show.
I really wanted to thank you for giving [our son] the opportunity. It's been great for his confidence.
Really enjoyed the show last night. The students were fantastic - the actors, singers, musicians, dancers and everyone else not on centre stage who contributed to such a great, enthusiastic production. A huge amount of hard work has clearly gone into making it a success. Well done to everyone, feel very proud and enjoy the rest of the performances!
Please also see the full gallery of photos and we were also School of the Week in The Argus on 1st March.
