Varndean School celebrates an impressive set of exam results.
Thursday, 24 August was another milestone day for students across the city, with students from Varndean School finding out their examination results which we are delighted with, particularly in English and maths.
75% of students achieved a Grade 4 or higher in Maths which is exceptional compared to a National figure of 69% and 15% of eligible students at Varndean School achieved the new top Grade 9 in Maths.
In English 73% of students achieved Grade 4 or higher, and 30% of all grades achieved were 9-7.
39% of all students achieved 5 A*-B (inc Eng/Ma at grade 6 or higher) and almost a third of students achieved one of the higher grades (9-7) in English, Maths or both.
The percentage of students achieving Grades 9-4 in both English and Maths is 65%.
50% of all entries were graded as 9/A*-B, representing a 10% increase on last year.
There was also exceptional performance across a broader range of subjects and the arts continue to be a real strength, with 94% of music students achieving grade C or above and almost 50% achieving the top grades A/A*.
Success was not limited to just our Year 11 students. 86% of students who took a GCSE in Latin achieved A*/A grades, including two Year 8 students.
All praise goes to staff, students and their families for their dedicated hard work.
Headteacher William Deighan said 'I could not be more proud of staff and students at Varndean. This really is a great school'.
