National Teaching Assistant Day 2017
National Teaching Assistants’ Day is an important day, created by Teaching Personnel to recognise the valuable contribution Teaching Assistants make to schools and pupils across the UK.
At Varndean we love all our teachers, but today is for all our amazing teaching assistants that provide support to teachers and help children develop. So a big shout out to all of you!
Flexibility, Creativity, Passion and Energy. These are just a few words that come to mind when describing the TA’s at Varndean.
They all have the ability to create lasting and effective relationships with teachers, parents and pupils. They help bring a positive attitude to the classroom and encourage students to take ownership of their learning, encouraging them to ask questions and take risks.
Without them our school wouldn’t be the same.
Shirley Peters: Teaching Assistant
‘I love it!
I can support students, particularly vulnerable ones, access learning. I get to know my students well and feel this can give them confidence and motivation. I also advocate when students are feeling stressed or have worries that affect their ability to learn. This supports the teacher who has to focus on whole class learning. I find I too am learning new information on a daily basis.’
Jo Neville: Head of Progress and Learning
'I would really like to take this day to acknowledge how my team of dedicated teaching assistants always go above and beyond in trying to make a difference for the young people they support. They are very much valued and the Varndean School community would not be the same without them.'
