Making the Grade
Learn the pathway to academic success.
Our "Making the Grade" events are designed to strengthen links between families and the school to help each and every one of our students reach their full potential.
The evenings were devised to support Year 11 parents but their success encouraged us to offer similar targeted events for all year groups at Varndean School.
The evenings provide an opportunity to hear from a variety of subjects to find out how to support your child's learning at home.
They offer help and advice on upcoming exams, useful revision tips and guidance on how to work with your child at home . The sessions will allow you and your child to speak to subject staff and to find out how students can supplement their learning at home in order to reach their target grades.
Invitation letters are sent home to parents and carers of the relevant year group shortly before the event.
The parental effect on test results is around five times more powerful than the influence of pupils’ schooling, it was revealed.
