Ever thought of combining your design skills with cricket? Then check out extra-curricular activity Crackit.
Last term, we were thrilled to take part in a pilot scheme run by design firm for Sussex CCC, Pleece and Co. 'Crackit' seeks to fuse design with cricket in a challenging and rewarding environment. Mr Thomas, Head of PE at Varndean School said Crackit is "a brilliant opportunity for Varndean students to develop new skills in both design and in Cricket. Students designed their own graphics which were then transferred onto bats which they got to keep. Hopefully this will inspire more of our students to get involved in school and club Cricket."
The final products were inspiring and we aim to host Crackit again this term, in the meantime, the indoor Cricket club continues on a Wednesday from 3.05-4.30pm in the Sports Hall. Sign up with Mr Thomas in the PE Department.
Year 9 student Daniel Bazely wrote about his experience of the Crackit extra-curricular activity. "I think that Crackit was a brilliant experience that was enjoyed by everyone who took part. It made people who love cricket get more creative and get into designing and vice versa.
"It was great fun being able to design our own characters for cricket bats that were all inspired by each other playing matches and fun cricket games.
"The best bit of Crackit was at the end when we all got our bats and t-shirts and saw our designs come to life.
"Crackit was very fun and I would recommend it to others who like design, cricket, both or maybe just want to try something new."
