GCSE Results 2018 - Varndean School are celebrating excellent exam results this year
Varndean School are absolutely delighted to report a significant increase in our GCSE results this year. English and Maths 4+ 75% (up from 67%), English and Maths 5+ 59% (up from 55%). Attainment 8 is 53 (up from 47). Early signs for Progress 8, published later in the year, are incredibly promising.
There were many individual successes for Varndean students, notably Harper Taylor-Hanson and Bethany Chapman who both scored the maximum points possible for progress made. Alongside them, Dominic Counihan and Madeline Hogan made the most progress from their starting points. All of our young people have a story to tell, and we celebrate all of their successes equally.
Our students and their teachers worked hard to come to terms with the new GCSEs this year and they deserve enormous praise and thanks for their tireless and joyous work. We send out thanks also to our Varndean families for their drive, support and belief in this incredible group of young people.
Headteacher William Deighan said:
It is profoundly moving to see who these young people have become, over their five years with us. They are a rounded, ambitious and kind group of individuals. As well as achieving great exam results, they have raised thousands for charities both locally and abroad and have worked quietly and humbly in their communities. Varndean staff have worked alongside our students and their families in bringing about this success.
We keep creativity at the heart of our curriculum to ensure that students grow as individuals as well as learners. We are immensely proud of the young people as they set off on the next stage of their adventure, we send a kindly nod to our fantastic Primary and Early Years colleagues who have shared their journey with us. Thank you.
